Remembering Charles Henry DeBow

This photograph was taken while Henry was attending his son Brant's Wedding.

Charles Henry DeBow passed away July 1, 2008 at 2:46 pm in Bakersfield Memorial Hospital after two and a half months of hospital care. Thanks to God, he is not suffering any longer. His age was 76 years.

Henry was born on May 25, 1932 in Colton, San Bernardino County, CA. His family, parents Helen and Clarence DeBow, brothers David, Bryant, Robert and Richard resided in El Centro, Imperial County, CA. Theodore Christianson was Henry’s half brother, born after Henry left for college.

Henry graduated from Central Union High school in 1950. He received a scholarship to Redlands University and started his first four years of college there. While in college he met Sharlee Richard. In his second year at Redlands University he was drafted by the Army to serve two years during the Korean war. He was shipped overseas to Germany where he and Sharlee were married. They spent the next several months traveling Europe. Henry and Sharlee returned to Redlands University and finished their educations. Sharlee became a school teacher and Henry continued his education and finally received his doctorate in industrial psychology from the University of Southern California.

Henry met and married Barbara Lynn Hatchard and they had two sons Bradley (resides in Arkansas) and Brant (resides in Tennessee).

Henry met Marjory (Joie) Pedutem in the Philippines and they married in the Hall of Justice in Quezon City, Philippines November 20, 1998. Two years later she was finally admitted into the United States. A couple of years later Joie received her US Citizenship.

Henry’s two sons Bradley and Brant, Joie his wife and Harold David DeBow his oldest brother are the only surviving members of his immediate family.

His son Bradley (Cindi) has three sons Trevor, Logan and Braden.

His son Brant (Janet) has two daughters Braelyn and Chloe.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Helen Hillenburg DeBow and brothers Bryant DeBow, Robert DeBow, Richard DeBow and Ted Christianson.

It was Henry’s wish that his ashes be buried in a Veterans Cemetery. That was done on September 15, 2008 in the San Joaquin Valley National VA Cemetery, Santa Nella, California.

1937-1940 - Elementary school (K through 3rd grade): Oceanside, Carlsbad, El Centro, CA, McKinley and Harding schools.

1941 - 1946 - 4th grade through junior high school. Harding, grammar and Wilson Junior High Schools (8th grade diploma).

1958 - 1960 - University of Southern California (USC): Masters Degree (MS) in Experimental Psychology and Statistics. Worked as research assistant for Electronics Personnel Research Group.

1960 - 1968 University of Southern California (USC): Doctorate Degree (Ph. D,) in Experimental Psychology and Statistics. Worked as research scientist for Electronics Personnel Research Group.
